Life is Uncertain
Is life uncertain?
Yes, true is the question.
Human beings are born to die
But nobody knows when, how, and why.
Some die in mothers’ womb
Numerous die in time of parturition.
Only the fortunate like us can see the light of day.
And get shelter in mother’s lap.
Some grow in extreme bonanza
While others live in extravaganza.
A lucky few find good parents and family
But the majority are deprived of parental affection.
Many get the chance to go to school and continue study
Millions remain out of the corridor of the academy.
Young in age ten or twelve compel to take care of siblings
Bring water, wash dirty clothes, and clean the room,
Go to the field with goats and cows in the morning,
And burn in the sun or drench in the rain.
Come back home in the evening, and again
Sit to cook food for the family and feed the siblings.
Prepare the bed and make them sleep
Life goes on struggling with the burden heap.
The world is good for the rich and affluent
Only the privileged few can enjoy costly food and education.
They travel by personal car with guardians’ care and guidance
Have the ability to spend money as much as they desire,
Can do regular parties and relish and waste dear-bought food.
The clothes they wear are gorgeous and exquisite
Every month they visit shopping malls to purchase classy goods.
Poor children cannot finish School studies
Girls get married early and boys engage in factories.
It is hard to resist disease; it becomes unavoidable to consume wine
Many youths get intoxicated and resort to illicit activities.
Falls in love with the same sex or opposite gender,
Feels temporary joy by partying with a stranger.
The ultimate fate of this kind of lovemaking is separation
And fall into a deep depression.
Some survive but many go to ruin
By spoiling health, wealth, and fame.
This is merely a kind of death of human resources
And there are scores of other avenues of nature’s traps.
Violent storms, torrential rains, ice and dust storms
Often take away the lives of several stronger men.
Pandemics, plagues, black fever, and dengue are some diseases
That snatch away thousands of beautiful and handsome lives.
The recent pandemic is the century’s devastating threat
That has created a vacuum in millions of homes and laps.
You may be rich or poor, Hindu or Muslim, Asian or American
The pandemic did not recognize your wealth or clan.
Young or old, men or women, tall or short
All fell prey to the dangerous and demon-like specter.
People died like ants and cockroaches in the kitchen
For all that reasons I call life ‘uncertain.’
