Poetry 1 College Diaries
I got my SSC results, joy in my heart,
Not for the grades, but the new life to start.
New college, new people, a world to explore,
New surroundings and atmosphere, so much more.
Friends urged me to fill forms, ten colleges, at least,
Dad was firm on ‘Berenson College’, his voice a gentle beast.
Maybe it was nearest, or his own hidden dream,
Regardless, I shopped, like a teen in a gleam.
A bag, books, stationery, shoes for the stride,
Got admission offline, ready for the ride.
College began, everything set in place,
Class teacher Mary Roberts, a familiar face.
Born and bred in a Malayali orthodox home,
Chit-chat with guys? I’d rather be alone.
Just girls around me, no boys in sight,
No flirty friends, just days simple and bright.
One day in the lift, a moment so rare,
The door opened, he was standing there.
Handsome, tall, a bodybuilder’s frame,
Tiny eyes filled with love, sparked my heart aflame.
Surrounded by girls, first benchers elite,
I didn’t ask them, they wouldn’t know this feat.
Who was that guy? In my mind, a constant stir,
In that brief mom
ent, my world began to blur.
