The story is narrated through the eyes of a young boy named Siva, who witnesses first-hand the hardships and horrors of war. The novel begins with Siva’s idyllic childhood, filled with simple pleasures like riding his bicycle with his father and eating his favourite snacks. However, this peaceful existence is shattered by the sudden invasion of Japanese forces. The family is forced to flee their home and seek shelter in a field, fearing aerial bombings. As the Japanese occupation continues, Siva’s family faces numerous challenges, including poverty, food shortages, and the constant threat of violence.
