Description
Unforgettable Urdu Shers
Who is this book meant for?
This book is a valuable resource for shaayari enthusiasts unfamiliar with the Urdu script yet appreciating timeless Urdu shers. This unique book presents the 1000 memorable shers in English and Hindi, ensuring correct pronunciation. Additionally, it conveniently provides English meanings for the Urdu words in the shers on the same page. While Hindi-speaking Indians often use Urdu words in daily conversation, the book acknowledges that non-Hindi speakers may find these common Urdu words unfamiliar. Therefore, it includes meanings for relatively simple and difficult Urdu words in English. Regardless of their first language, readers from all parts of the country can now immerse themselves in unforgettable Urdu shers while simultaneously expanding their Urdu vocabulary!
Why is this book a boon for lovers of Urdu Shaayari?
From the illustrious Wali Mohammad Wali, born in Hyderabad in 1617, to the modern-day masters, shaayars have woven magic through their shers, captivating generations of South Asians. Some shers, with their elegance and sensitivity, have become unforgettable, and outlive the memory of the shaayar who penned them.
This compilation celebrates 1000 timeless shers by 41 Master Shaayars from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. Among the luminaries are well-known names like Wali Muhammad Wali, Meer Taqi Meer, Mushafi Ghulam Hamdani, Mirza Ghalib, Lala Madhav Ram Jauhar, Dagh Dehelvi, Allama Iqbal, Jigar Moradabadi, and Josh Malihabadi. Yet, it doesn’t stop there—hidden within these pages are lesser-known shaayars, their names fading into the mists of time, but their shers resonating even today.
